„Municipal know-how for the Middle East”
Planning integrated solid waste management, composting, waste sorting
Study tour and project workshop on solid waste management for Jordanian municipalities

Under the initiative „Municipal know-how for the Middle East”, the International Community of Practice Connective Cities organized from March 27 to 31, 2017 a study tour to Germany for the representatives of Jordanian communities. Visiting various waste management facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia, participants got an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the solid waste management industry in Germany.

In a course of the following Practitioners’ Workshop, cooperation projects between German communal enterprises and Jordanian municipalities have been planned. In addition, the parties have reached an agreement with regard to specific steps necessary for establishing a possible project-related partnership.

CONNECTIVE CITIES’ NEW INTERNET APPEARANCE
PURE DESIGN, STRONG APPEAL, HUMAN SCALE - TOPICS, SERVICES AND GOOD PRACTICES IN FOCUS

Connective Cities’ web-platform is in the new garment - from a technical point of view it features the latest trends in web-development, adapting automatically to a user’s device. The home page provides a much better overview of the news as well as current and future activities of Connective Cities, and also gives extensive information about the essence and focus of our work. The expanded services offer is now more precisely described and documented. Last, but not the least, there are two innovations that we are especially proud of – the documentation pieces for both Dialogue Events and Good Practices stand out in their visual appearance and clarity of the content. We made it with a special message in mind, namely, that sustainable urban development is not a “rocket science”, but a continuous process, driven by dedicated people and for people.

Municipal services
New thematic focus of Connective Cities

Municipal services are among the core tasks of a municipality and its municipal companies and represent a tangible and direct link with its citizens.

The access to municipal services and the quality of their provision strongly influence the social, economic and environmental performance of a city as well as its urban development.

Connective Cities formally introduced this new thematic area with dialogue events in Germany as well as project workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa and Jordan in 2016. Energy supply, public transport and transport, waste and recycling, together with water supply and sanitation, are topics now complementing the broad thematic spectrum of activities of the International Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development and intensifying its cooperation with municipal companies.
