Our Approach

Connective Cities - international community of practice for sustainable urban development

Peer learning and international exchange of experience

Connective Cities promotes the global exchange of municipal expertise and supports shared learning and peer consultation between German and international urban practitioners as well as the development of joint projects.

Our aim is to network municipal experts and to offer the opportunity to exchange international experiences on sustainable urban development at the local level within the framework of structured learning processes.

All our activities are geared towards the needs of municipalities. Connective Cities acts as a facilitator and mediator of these learning processes and has always focused on participatory and practice-oriented strategies. Our core method is peer consultation, which focuses on needs-based outcomes.

From project ideas to change processes

As part of our exchange, we invite people to a specific topic to share experiences, discuss current challenges and develop new ideas for projects. The aim is to contribute to change processes in cities based on the project ideas developed during the dialogue events.

Here, the municipal representatives from the respective "project city" have a key function. Only through these people and other city actors can the project idea be carried forward.

Connective Cities is a cooperation project between the German Association of Cities, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Engagement Global and its Service Agency Communities in One World, and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
