In this issue, we highlight the city of Bonn and, showcase to show how change can be measured through the Voluntary Local Reviews (VLR) - and invite representatives of cities and municipal associations from all over the world with an interest in VLR to our dialog event in Berlin from 2 to 4 December.
We will report on how active women from the MENA region are developing strategies to combat prejudices in the working group "Women's Leadership in Municipalities" and invite you to a virtual workshop in which tools and practical measures for successful election campaigns for female candidates will be presented.
We provide insights into an intensive learning process of seventeen cities from eight countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and show how they are better prepared for floods in the wake of climate change through risk-informed urban development. Using the example of the South African city of Polokwane, we take a closer look at how resource efficiency, innovation and social responsibility can improve flood control.
Learn how projects developed by eight cities and a city association from Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda, from our recent activities in Sub-Saharan Africa are driving forward the transition to renewable energies are also promising.
Last but not least, we would like to draw your attention to the Carl and Anneliese Goerdeler Foundation's Municipal Policy Award 2025, which this time has the motto: "Peaceful coexistence in cities | SDG 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions" - because actively shaping peace is the basis of sustainable development.
