Connective Cities
INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT
NEWSLETTER - EDITION No. 54, November 2022

Dear Readers,

new heat records and extensive wildfires in Central and Southern Europe, heavy rain events and floods of unprecedented dimensions in Pakistan and Australia, droughts at the Horn of Africa, devastating tornadoes in North and Central America, rapid ice melting at the poles and on high-mountain glaciers – the impacts of climate change are dramatic this year.

Still, we have the means to mitigate some of these effects. Our featured good practices illustrate how cities are successfully adapting to climate change. Partnership-based municipal cooperation can be a great benefit in dealing with crises – whether climate-related, war-related or pandemic-related. They offer manifold support: peer-to-peer exchange, solutions for urban challenges, aid deliveries and human encouragement.

In this context, we hope you will keep on engaging with Connective Cities: We are embarking on a learning process on "Actions for Cooler Cities" over the next months and invite you to a three-hour virtual exchange on "Strategies to Mitigate Heat Islands".

Get inspired!

The Connective Cities event provided insights into municipal experiences from Ljubljana (Slovenia), Berlin (Germany) and Irbid (Jordan). It also revealed that this approach is not easy to embrace in terms of implementation.
