Connective Cities
INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT
NEWSLETTER - EDITION No. 43, November 2021

Dear Readers,

tackling the climate crisis and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic are two of the greatest challenges of our time - and they are like siblings. Both phenomena affect humanity as a whole, in unpredictable ways. Potentially, any of us can be affected, any community, any region, even the economies and livelihoods of entire nations.

Because of their close proximity to the people and as executive bodies, cities and municipalities have a key role to play in finding appropriate solutions to these urgent global issues: Municipalities are at the forefront of disaster preparedness and crisis management, in creating digital and agile governance practices, in supporting vulnerable groups and local economic development or in providing green and sustainable public spaces.

In these challenging times, our Connective Cities networks have gained momentum. Working groups emerged from our dialogue events, project ideas have been elaborated through peer-to-peer learning and are now ready for implementation. This newsletter gives you an insight into our learning processes.

And we are excited to announce that our Connective Cities Lab starts tomorrow! Until 20 November we offer you a whole range of virtual exchange formats: The Capacity Strengthening Capsules are short expert talks that focus on a specific urban issue; our Design Thinking Workshops provide an in-depth approach to urban solutions – just to mention two options. Explore our programme and join us online!
