Connective Cities
INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE FOR SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT
NEWSLETTER - EDITION No. 48, Mai 2022

Dear readers,

assessing risks, planning for uncertainties, mitigating the impacts of pandemics and climate change, and strengthening social cohesion – these are probably key challenges to making cities and municipalities more resilient in turbulent times.

In this issue, we highlight a few examples of how municipalities are tackling these challenges. Many of these project ideas have emerged through peer-to-peer exchange at our Connective Cities dialogue events and have been implemented in project partnerships or by collegial consultation: The cities of Bogotá in Colombia and Stuttgart support each other in implementing their vaccination and communication strategies; a working group from our network a working group of our network focuses on good practices in Sub-Saharan Africa; Rostock supported the Tunisian coastal city of Bizerte in setting up a composting plant – to mention just a few examples.

These cooperation formats are becoming increasingly important and we will continue to promote them, e.g. through a municipal exchange on how the international community can help Ukraine during the ongoing war and through a series of events on sustainable urban infrastructure.

Trialog Conference: "Co-operation revisited”
Perspectives for cross-cultural education, work and exchange in the urban development field - the abstract submission deadline has been extended until 31 May 2022.

International cooperation between the Global North and Global South still suffers from a neo-colonial imbalance in both academic and political circles, – a premise that is, however, increasingly and justifiably coming under criticism.
