Results

At the end of the programme, participants had a good understanding of:

  1. The technical, institutional and financial “ingredients” of infrastructure planning which enable the successful implementation of urban development;
  2. The steps required to identify, prepare and implement urban infrastructure investments and design a feasible economic model for the project;
  3. Initiatives, good practice experiences and different kinds of support available to strengthen competencies and skills of cities in preparing bankable urban infrastructure investment projects.

As the German expert Rainer Speer, former Minister of Finance of the State of Brandenburg explained funding of urban infrastructure projects through PPP-models is an option, but should not be seen as the solution of all financial restraints that municipalities are facing. Private investors are risk adverse and need to see a solid stream of revenues through such a project.

During the celebration of the 10th anniversary of CDIA in Manila the programme has given special recognition to all participating municipalities for the preparation of their projects.
