Climate-proof and Resilient Urban Development

Connective Cities virtual workshop: Project planning of municipal adaptation measures in Latin American cities

In view of the current situation worldwide, attendance formats for international meetings are neither sensible nor formally possible. Nevertheless, we are continuing our offer in Latin America and are restructuring the ongoing learning process on the topic of climate proof and resilient urban development from a face-to-face event to virtual formats.

For this reason, the international city platform Connective Cities invites municipal practitioners from Latin America and Germany to participate in the virtual planning workshop "Climate-friendly and climate-friendly urban development - project planning of municipal adaptation measures".

The upcoming virtual event is a follow-up to the dialogue event in Niterói /Brazil last November, where municipal practitioners came together to exchange best practices and develop new project ideas with mutual support. The upcoming planning workshop aims to further develop these project ideas by revising strategic approaches with the support of regional and international experts from municipal practice.

The virtual planning workshop starts with an introductory event on 15 June 2020 and includes four additional webinars on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 15 June and 26 June 2020.

Webinar Dates: 15.06. (Introduction) / 16.06. / 18.06. / 23.06. / 25.06.2020

The following project ideas will be presented at the virtual planning workshop and jointly developed further (for more details on the project ideas, please check the Call for Participants [pdf in Spanish] and the Agenda [pdf in Spanish]):

  1. Project 1: Improving the resilience of people and environmental communities in areas vulnerable to climate change / Municipality: Portoviejo, Ecuador
  2. Project 2: Strengthening the ecosystem-based adaptation measures at the tourist location San Miguel de Allende / Municipality: San Miguel de Allende, México
  3. Project 3: Adaptation of existing and new households to the forecast increase in temperatures and precipitation for the Risaralda administrative area / Municipality: Quinchía, Colombia
  4. Project 4: Colina Verde - Strengthening of security conditions by limiting the risk of landslides and fires in the community of Boa Vista / Municipality: Niterói, Brazil
  5. Project 5: The importance of agroforestry systems as an adaptation measure to climate change and as an economic sector for the community of Tomé-Açu Municipality: Tomé-Açu, Brazil

With this call we are looking for regional urban practitioners who can support and advance these five project ideas with their expertise in the virtual project planning workshop.

The working language of the event will be Spanish and Portuguese with translation for the international participants.
