International Cycling Conference 2017: Bridging the gap between research and practice

Organized by: Umweltbundesamt together with DIFU, ECF, GIZ and the City of Mannheim

"The International Cycling Conference (ICC) is an interdisciplinary and international meeting organized by the German Environment Agency (UBA). 2017 is the 200th anniversary of the Draisine, a velocipede that is the forerunner of the bicycle, invented by Karl Drais. A suitable occasion for highlighting cycling under the perspective of “Managing Changes”. From 19th to 21st September, researchers and practitioners from all over the world will discuss the role of cycling in the modern world.

The ICC intends to overcome the perpetual cleavage between scientists whose interest is the research about structures and trends and practitioners who have practical measures and their budget in mind. Two new formats are introduced: R4P (Researchers for Practitioners) and P4R (Practitioners for Researchers). The purpose is to strengthen interdisciplinary networking as well as to enable research transfer. Different and continuative discourses shall be initiated by the conference."
