From July, 12-14, 2017, the international community of practice for sustainable urban development, Connective Cities, will organise a Local Project Planning Workshop on “Low Carbon Mobility Planning” in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Low Carbon Mobility Planning provides a long-term vision for sustainable mobility for people, and the movement of goods in cities. It advocates an integrated approach looking at land use and transport planning, the integration of issues such as safety, environment and CO2 mitigation. Thereby, it addresses both climate change and development issues through an integrated transport and land-use planning process.
The upcoming event is geared specifically towards supporting the planning of low carbon mobility and to develop an action plan for e-mobility driven public bus services and the cycling promotion program as well as connectivity of the various modes of transport.
Chiang Mai is a regional center in the north of Thailand and has about 1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area. Local participants include representatives of different stakeholder groups, such as local government and administration, economy, civil society, and academia who are contributing their know-how and expertise to identify the underlying challenges in the urban context. German urban practitioners from municipalities are asked to provide first-hand experience on practical approaches and proven solutions to low carbon mobility.
The workshop will be structured into three steps:
