The 2030 Agenda recognises the importance of water and sanitation and has set a specific target, Sustainable Development Goal 6. This goal aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
However, we are still a long way from achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6. According to the United Nations, 2.2 billion people currently lack access to safe drinking water.
The climate crisis is making it even more difficult to secure water supplies and fulfil the human right to clean drinking water. Municipal partnerships can make a difference at the local level to improve water services in municipalities.
Using concrete examples from municipalities and municipal utilities involved in German-African partnerships, the event will demonstrate
Municipal utilities play a central role in the water sector and make an indispensable contribution by maintaining the infrastructure and treating drinking water.
We would therefore like to also invite employees of municipal utilities to this event. Perhaps you would like to contribute your expertise to municipal partnerships in the future and become involved internationally?
Following the presentation of examples, we invite you to discuss and exchange experiences with other participants of the workshop.
