14:00 - 16:30 CET

Opening Session of the virtual global exchange series from 23rd November to 03rd December 2020 on the topic "Municipal Response to COVID-19"

Cities worldwide are severely affected by the impacts of COVID-19. They are largely responsible for implementing the measures adopted by national governments to contain the virus. The crisis also highlights once again the importance of local resilience, both in terms of local crisis management and disaster preparedness, and for adaptable and sustainable urban development. Many cities, municipalities and rural districts have already developed good solutions and strategies - quickly, innovatively and often with few resources.

Our opening session will provide an overview of the challenges facing cities during the pandemic.

With welcome addresses from

Felix Reifschneider, Deputy Head of UnityMinistry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

Sabine Drees, Senior Advisor International Affairs, Association of German Cities (Deutscher Städtetag)
