Connective Cities activities in MENA

Within the ambit of our activities to establish a regional network of practice for sustainable urban development in MENA, Connective Cities has been reaching out to municipal and city associations as well as to stakeholders from politics, administration, private sector, science and civil society. The regional network aims at facilitating the development and dissemination of good practices and urban solutions for sustainable urban development. Good practices shall contribute to operationalising the Agenda 2030 goals and implementing climate- as well as gender-sensitive urban practices. To this end, we would like to use this opportunity to reiterate our call for urban practitioners to join our global network of the International Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development.

Save the date! Connective Cities dialogue event in the MENA-region

The upcoming dialogue regional event in MENA will take place during the last week of June 2020 (the 26th calender week). The dialogue event will tackle one of our thematic priorities in the region, which is the role of decentralization in promoting local economic development.

What is happening in the urban development scene in MENA?

The following are some highlights of upcoming regional events in the urban development scene.

The 2020 World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi, UAE
7 Feb - 13 Feb
It will be the first World Urban Forum hosted by a Middle Eastern country, and will highlight the major challenges faced by this region in the fight against climate change, through the lens of  local implementation of the tools and regional partnerships for the New Urban Agenda.

Middle East Smart Mobility in Dubai, UAE
25 - 26 Feb 2020
Titled “The Future of Urban Mobility", the Middle East Smart Mobility is a strategic high-level conference and collocated exhibition covering major industry trends from intelligent transport systems, autonomous travel, urban planning, sustainable mobility, payments and ticketing, big data and analytics, connected transport and much more. It brings together over 200 speakers and 7500 attendees from across the region and will cover the entire smart transport ecosystem.

Middle East Smart Landscape Summit, UAE
Tue, Apr 7 – Wed, Apr 8
Under the title "Middle East's Leading Event on Building Healthy Natural Environments And Sustainable Communities", Middle East Smart Landscape Summit will bring together leading landscape architects and sustainability experts to discuss topics on developing healthy happy cities and improving the quality of life within urban communities, cost efficient retrofitting for urban development along with maintenance of turfs and soil for the Middle Eastern topography, amongst other themes.
