In collaboration with the Experts for municipal partnerships worldwide, an insight session has been organised on the 15^th March 2023 on the topic ‘Municipal experiences on development of a functional and transferable geographic information system (GIS)’. The insight session was attended by 18 participants from 13 cities, who learned about municipal experiences and on this topic. In particular, the partnership between Beit Jala and Jena municipalities to develop Enterprise GIS Application was presented by Ibrahim Anastas (GIS expert seconded to the municipality of Beit Jala). In addition, Taghreed Al-Faouri (head of GIS department in Madaba municipality) presented the web-based navigation app that was developed by Madaba municipality as part of the working group ‘digitalisation of municipal services in the MENA region’.

The session has revealed a high interest among the participating municipalities to share experience and advance in the employment of GIS to drive digitalisation of municipal services. To address this high demand, a potential collaboration between Connective Cities and the Experts for municipal partnerships project is envisioned and is launched by the insight session.
