A climate-neutral district with approx. 6,500 apartments for 15,000 people is primarily creating affordable housing - as the most important building block against Freiburg's housing shortage and rising rents. Dietenbach is to become a colourful district with short distances and communicative open spaces, schools, sports facilities, day-care centres and shopping facilities. The quarter will be inclusive and barrier-free.

The majority of Freiburg residents also voted for the Dietenbach district in the referendum on 24 February 2019. With a turnout of almost 50 percent, 60 percent of the voters voted for the construction of the district.

The city railway connection, a good cycle path network and Car-Sharing offers make the residents independent of their own car. Parking is only available away from residential streets, especially in garages in the neighbourhoods.
