From Policy Transfer to Urban Sustainability Exchange

Urban sustainability exchange (USE) - a platform for and by city makers worldwide.

The use-platform is aimed at all those who actively participate in urban design and research and are interested in topics of sustainable urban development. With the renaming of the Policy Transfer Platform (PTP), founded in 2014, to use (urban sustainability exchange), the redesign and new functions, the platform underlines its claim to be a practice-oriented forum for and by city makers for the implementation of sustainable development goals (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs).

use is an initiative of the international city network Metropolis under the leadership of the state of Berlin. The platform is supervised by an international editorial team and scientifically advised by the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University.

The case studies come from members of the use-community and from the platform's partner network. The global partner network currently includes Connective Cities, Sustainable Cities Collaboratory, C40 Cities Finance Facility, Localizing the SDGs, UCLG Learning, apolitical, Seoul Solution, and World Urban Campaign as well as the Urban Awards Guangzhou Award, City of Barcelona FAD Award, URBACT Good Practice Label, and EUROCITIES Award.

Thus, the database is constantly growing to include high-quality projects and initiatives, some of which have been awarded prizes and implemented in every case. The platform currently has 296 case studies from 144 cities at its disposal. The use-community offers access to 289 individual and institutional profiles of city makers from five continents: Administration and policy experts, planners, consultants, academics and students. Use and registration at use (urban sustainability exchange) is free of charge.
