From July 2023 until March 2025, the international community of practice Connective Cities is organising a Deep Dive process on the topic of "Heat in the City - Heat action planning and mitigation of heat island effects". Deep Dive is a new offer from Connective Cities, in which up to six municipalities can exchange ideas on the topic in innovative formats over a period of two years and, with the involvement of experts, jointly develop solutions to mitigate climate change-related heat effects in cities and settlements.

The Deep Dive process is aimed at German and international municipalities (in particular urban planning and building departments, environmental departments and fire brigades) as well as municipal companies and municipal disaster management authorities that are active in this thematic area.

The aim of the process is to share good practice examples and ideas on innovative approaches, identify challenges and conflicts and jointly develop possible solutions to the challenge of urban heat islands.

Thematic priorities are:

  • Response to heat waves
  • Medium- and long-term urban planning measures
