International expert exchange through new virtual formats

An outlook for our Connective Cities International Community of Practice in Germany

In order to continue and further promote the international exchange of expertise via the International Community of Practice in Germany, we are developing innovative and agile formats of virtual collaboration. Among our upcoming virtual exchanges are:

• A virtual expert mission between Stadtreinigung Hamburg and Quito on the topic of "Treatment of organic waste". Several virtual sessions will be held between May and July to support the exchange among the participating experts and the implementation of a project idea in Quito. This exchange is the result of the learning process initiated in Hamburg in December 2019 on the topic of “Plastic Waste: The Contribution of Municipal Waste Management”.

• A virtual stakeholder meeting to support the experts of the City of Vinnytsia in the concretization of the project idea “Revitalization and treatment of small rivers in Vinnytsia”. This project idea was developed during the dialogue event on the topic of "Climate Proofing Urban Development", which took place in Dortmund in September 2019. The exchange will offer the experts the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss the challenges and opportunities of the project idea.

• A virtual Connective Cities Dialogue Event for German and international local government associations (LGAs) on the topic of “Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The aim of the virtual exchange is to get to know and exchange on good practice examples from LGAs with different approaches to the localisation of the SDGs. The virtual event is planned for the last week of August.

• Connective Cities and the Berlin districts of Mitte, Pankow, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Lichtenberg will organize a virtual exchange in September for actors working on different aspects of urban gardening and its inclusion in city development strategies and plans. This activity will be a preparation for the postponed dialogue event on “Urban Gardening”, which will take place in Berlin, Germany in 2021.
