Bijeljina is a city of about 100,000 inhabitants in the north-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2017, the city has been promoting local sustainability activities and aligning its actions with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this process, the city is also engaged towards a sustainable transport concept. With this in mind, representatives from Bijeljina took part in several Connective Cities networking events and developed a concept for a bike path system and a pedestrian zone in the city centre.

At a virtual expert exchange on sustainable urban mobility, the municipality recently shared ideas with German practitioners from Leipzig and Stuttgart on how to implement the project.
