These could have a compensatory effect on climate events such as heavy rain and heat, and at the same time serve as local recreation areas. However, many of these rivers are heavily polluted and in an alarming environmental condition. At a Connective Cities dialogue event in Dortmund 2019 on the topic of "Climate Proofing Urban Development", the project idea "Revitalisation of Smaller Rivers in Vinnytsia" emerged. This idea got further developed together with two technical experts from the Ruhr area and the Lippe region during virtual workshops in autumn 2020. The focus is now on the Diohtianets River. The city of Vinnytsia has started concrete planning for its revitalisation and intends to apply for EU funding for the implementation of the pilot project.
