Urban Renewal in the Historic Town Centre of Jakarta

Connective Cities in cooperation with global network of local and regional authorities United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) organize a local project planning workshop

From July 17-19, 2017, Connective Cities in cooperation with  global network of local and regional authorities United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) organize a local project planning workshop on Urban Renewal in the Historic Town Centre of Jakarta.

To boost the communication network in Asia-Pacific, in the context of broader global efforts to enable learning and knowledge transfer among cities and local governments, the city of Jakarta and other cities in Asia-Pacific have expressed an interest in exploring policies and management models which ensure the preservation and continuity of tangible and intangible heritage and other cultural and local assets in the context of urban renewal processes. The stakeholder and interest groups are much larger and diverse and the technical on-site challenges are immense.

Given Jakarta’s current rapid urbanisation process and the increasing investment pressure on inner city areas, a strategy of Integrated Sustainable Urban Development plays a particularly important role in achieving a sustainable urban renewal practice, especially in historic town centres to manage an inclusive and integrated urban renewal of Jakarta’s historic center.

Along with providing opportunities for experience exchange between communal practitioners from Germany and the region, the workshop is also aimed on supporting Jakarta’s application to UNESCO for recognizing its old city as the World Heritage Site..

Applications from municipal actors and experts are welcome!
