Connective Cities, the International Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development, invites representatives of municipal companies and cities’ administrations to the practitioners’ workshop on the topic of Sustainable Urban District Development - Towards resilient and liveable urban district development. The event will take place in Amman, Jordan from 14 to 16 November 2017.

The upcoming workshop in planned in the framework of the initiative <link https: www.initiative-nahost.de en home.html _blank external-link-new-window know-how for host communities in the middle>"Municipal Know-How for Host Communities in the Middle East", which is a new activity of Connective Cities in cooperation with Engagement Global and pays specific attention to municipalities hosting refugees.

In the light of urban challenges arising in Jordanian cities in the context of a high number of refugees, as well as climate change impacts, solutions for urban development that can cope with these challenges and foster resilient and liveable urban systems have to be found. The integrated urban district development approach is an approach to meet the challenges and requirements for liveable cities. It creates meaningful linkages between social, ecological and economical goals and involves all important actors from different departments of city administration, civil society and private sector, helping to implement a coherent and integrated concept.

Thus, the workshop is aimed at enabling cities from Jordan and Germany to exchange experiences in the sphere of integrated urban district development, including such its aspects as renewable energy, green infrastructure and public spaces, sustainable water management as pillars of resilience and liveability in cities. During the workshop, participants from Jordan will also be supported in developing their local action plans for urban district development.

Connective Cities organizes the workshop in cooperation with GIZ projects in Jordan - "Sustainable Use of Ecosystem Services in Jordan"; "Improvement of Green Infrastructure in Jordan through Labor-intensive Measures" and "Revision and Implementation of Jordan’s Nationally Determined Contributions in the Context of Climate Change".
