Connective Cities at the Africities Exhibition 2018

Connective Cities at the Africities Exhibition 2018 – Connecting and obtaining feedback

Preparatory to the new phase of Connective Cities, Connective Cities took part in the urban conference Africities from November 20-24, organized by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA). With a booth at the exhibition of Africities, Connective Cities took up the contact to many stakeholders in the urban arena like municipal representatives, national municipal associations, ministries of local governance and international organizations working in the field of urban development.

By means of an interactive survey and a multitude of conversations with the booth’s visitors, areas of interest for future dialogue and learning processes of Connective Cities in Africa were obtained as one important input for the planning of the next phase from 2019 – 2022.

To complement the perspective on interests and demands of municipal actors as well as existing good practices in urban development issues in Africa, , a call for engagement will be launched in the beginning of next year to identify potential municipal participants for the regional learning processes of Connective Cities for the next phase beginning in April 2019.

Municipal actors can apply to take part in a joint learning process and commit themselves together with their municipalities to a process of dialogue, exchange of experience, peer-to-peer learning and project development. The whole process will include several events, and selected project ideas will be supported further in the preparation of their detailed design involving international expertise.
