Competition Launch: "Municipality Moves World"

The prize for outstanding municipal examples of migration and development starts the new application phase 2020.

The competition is designed for German municipalities that are active in development policy together with migrant initiatives.

More and more cities, counties and municipalities are committed to diversity, equal opportunities and to shaping the global future locally. Whether in initiatives on sustainability, fair trade or town twinning with emerging and developing countries - wherever communities and people with a history of migration pool their expertise, more sustainable structures are formed and the impact of the activities increases. Migrants raise awareness of global issues and their countries of origin, act as advisors in North-South partnerships and actively shape local development policy. Municipalities plan international projects together with migrant associations or initiatives, organise events on global issues or develop strategies and mission statements - migration and development are increasingly coming together at municipal level.

This is where the Service Agency Communities in One World (SKEW) of Engagement Global comes in and provides a stage for good ideas: In 2020, the nationally unique competition "Communes Move the World" will once again award prizes at a festive awards ceremony to German municipalities which, together with migrant organisations and One World actors, are committed to development policy and think beyond integration measures.

Since 2 March 2020, municipalities have been able to apply for the current round of the competition together with migrants. The closing date for applications is 28 June 2020.
