Project Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Jordan

Connective Cities Project Workshop from 14. - 16. November in Amman, Jordan

In the frame of BMZ’s “Local Government Expertise for the Middle East Initiative” Connective Cities, the international Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Development, organized an international project workshop as a follow up to the first Practitioners´ Workshop in Jordan “From Waste to Resource – Planning Integrated Solid Waste Management Solutions“ in May 2016. During that dialogue event, participants from 7 municipalities in Jordan and a number of German experts exchanged good practice examples, discussed common challenges, entered into a fruitful peer-to-peer advisory process and developed concrete project ideas. The main focus was on the planning of municipal waste management plans, and on technical issues such as on waste separation, recycling and depot management.

During this Project Workshop which took place in Amman from November, 14-16 representatives from Jordanian cities werre asked to elaborate their actual challenges in solid waste management. The proposed project ideas were be developed further with the support of German experts on solid waste management who bring in German expertise and experience in order to support the colleagues from Jordan municipalities by means of peer-to-peer advice. More specific projects and related support measures can be identified and planned during the mutual consultation and learning process.

The workshop was conducted in cooperation with the bilateral development programme “Support of Jordan Communities in Solid Waste Management in dealing with the Syrian Refugees crises” (ADHOC) that works closely with the Jordanian municipalities involved in this process.
