Connective Cities Sub Saharan Africa organized a three part series of workshops on the topic of ‘Sustainable, informed and participatory land management and land use planning in rapidly growing cities’ as subsequent steps to the dialogue event held in May. The objectives of the series were to support the cities better understand their projects, provide an opportunity for review by German experts, train on proposal writing and offer financial advisory.

Four municipalities from Cameroon, South Africa and Zambia presented their project ideas and the gaps therein. These project ideas are:
The planning workshop comprised of three group-oriented workshops and several bilateral engagements to better understand the context of the projects and provide technical feedback. In the first workshop (19.10.2021), the project owners presented their ideas. The subsequent steps are illustrated in the figure below.

UN-Habitat presentation on the Global Land Tool Network
Danilo Antonio from the UN-Habitat presented on the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) showing some of the tools that would be useful for the some of the projects. These tools and approaches contribute to good land governance, inclusive land administration, sustainable land management and functional land sector coordination among others.
The project owners continue to work on the proposals. This will be complemented with expert missions to address any pending technical questions. Connective Cities will also continue to identify possible funding institutions/partners for these projects. UN-Habitat has committed to link the projects with partners who can also support them.
