Integrated urban mobility in Malmö, Sweden

Due to a radical change from traditional car-oriented urban planning Malmö has become Sweden’s number one bicycle city. SUTP shows 360° views of the award-winning mobility concept.

Back in the late 1980s, Malmö was a typical industrial city. Just a few decades later, it is internationally acclaimed for its work on sustainable development, has won the Sustainable Urban Mobility Award at the European Mobility Week in 2016 and has become Sweden’s top bicycle city.

In 2016, the city of Malmö has adopted its first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). This plan addresses all modes of transportation and incorporates social, environmental and economical sustainability. By this holistic approach, transport planning is linked in the overall urban planning process and takes into account the accessibility for different social groups. Meanwhile, Malmö is said to be Sweden’s number one bicycle city with around 30% of its population using the bike daily to commute to work or education. In terms of its cycling infrastructure, Malmö owns a cycling path network of over 500 km and an outstanding bike & ride system.

The Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) documents Malmö's sustainable infrastructure achievements with 360° pictures to experience it in an interactive way.
