Multi-Stakeholder Symposium: Towards Inclusive Cities in Asia

Organized by GIZ, CDIA, ICPP, Cities Alliance, SEF

From February 23 to 24, the GIZ Study and Expert Fund Project ‘Inclusive Metropolitan Environments for the Urban Poor’ together with the Cities Alliance, the Cities Development Initiative for Asia, the GIZ Inclusive Cities Partnership Program, and the GIZ Sector Network Good Governance Asia will convene a multi-stakeholder symposium that builds around discussing case studies on inclusive approaches in Asian cities and metropolitan regions. Run for the part in a workshop-mode, it will bring together representatives from governments at the national and subnational levels, public agencies, community organizations, private sector actors, donors, development financing agencies, and social development actors.
The overall objective of the workshop is to enable a critical understanding of the challenges cities are facing to plan, implement and finance policies and infrastructure investments for the urban poor. Of particular interest are the institutional challenges and arrangements, and the effects of policies and infrastructure development on the social and economic lives of the poor in urban and peri-urban areas. The symposium will deliberate on three thematic areas: Urban Policy and Governance, Land and Urban Planning and Infrastructure.
