Brief description of project:
China’s rapid urbanization represents an important challenge the Chinese government is facing. Many of the key issues arising from China’s urbanization are at the same time closely linked to topics of the Sino-German strategic partnership and thus offer extensive potential for bilateral cooperation. The complex and interdependent nature of these issues calls for an approach that involves representatives from different ministries, stakeholders and disciplines. Against this backdrop the workshop on urbanization will involve representatives from different Chinese ministries and from different German institutions and think tanks.

The aim of the workshop will be to determine dialogue topics on sustainable urbanization which both countries want to contribute to. The workshop and the site visits have the function of a fact-finding mission for a possible future project on urbanization under the umbrella of the Sino-German Public Policy Dialogue Fund (PPDF), which is jointly headed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation (BMZ) and Development and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MofCom) and aims at involving relevant line ministries on the Chinese and German side.
