In the framework of the BMZ funded programme <link https: www.initiative-nahost.de en home.html _blank external-link-new-window know-how for host communities in the middle>"Municipal Know-How for Host Communities in the Middle East", the international Community of Practice Connective Cities invites urban practitioners from Lebanon and Germany to the 1st Connective Cities’ International Dialogue Event in Lebanon on Strengthening Local Economic Development, to be held in Beirut on October 24-26, 2017.
The upcoming event is geared specifically towards supporting the analysis and planning of local economic development based on good practices up to the formulation of ideas for local action plans to foster the local economy in view of needs of both, the host communities and the refugees. Topics i.a. will cover the enhancement of local value chains in the context of regional/urban-rural linkages as well as supporting local entrepreneurship and integrating the informal sector. Presentations and discussion of good practices that can be applied to the local context in Lebanon and peer-to-peer advice on actual challenges in a creative and interactive workshop environment constitute the main features of the workshop.
Local participants will include representatives of different stakeholder groups from a variety of Lebanese municipalities, such as local government and administration, private sector, civil society, and academia who will contribute their know-how and expertise to identify the underlying challenges in the urban and regional economic context.
Connective Cities will held the dialogue event in cooperation with the Association of Lebanese Municipalities (Cités Unies Liban).
